Spirit of the Rose Publishing specialises in the publication of books on floral art and design, gardens and historical homes.
David Lloyd is an award-winning photographer whose professional world has centered on the photography of flowers and nature. When he met Annie Beagent, his dream was to create a beautiful ‘coffee table’ book of floral art; it was to be dedicated to the most romantic of all flowers – the rose.
After only a few meetings with Annie they set up Spirit of the Rose and spent the next two years bringing together the talent, knowledge and passion of many rose lovers. With the support and encouragement of friends and family, they made the book happen and without exception they were overwhelmed by the generosity of those who contributed their time, exceptional skills and wonderful stories.
Inspired by the work of the still life masters; artists such as Rachel Ruysch and Henri Fantin-Latour and with an innate sense of the artistic, David’s photographs of flowers are often mistaken for paintings. Annie, with an artist’s eye for colour and composition added to the mix and with the arrangements and designs created by many leading floral artists, the book shows how versatile the rose can be and why it is a most unique flower.
Spirit of the Rose has won two major awards; one which was presented in Japan, was an award for literary excellence presented by The World Federation of Rose Societies and David won a Photographer of the Year award for a portfolio of images from the book.
David and Annie have travelled throughout the UK and to America, South Africa and Japan and, working with a number of leader floral artists, have now produced eight more books.
